Critical Photography series

Since 1986, Intellect has provided a vital space for widening critical debate in new and emerging subjects. As a leading academic publisher in the fields of creative practice and popular culture, Intellect has a strong list of visual culture and contemporary art focused publications. We aim to offer a platform for photographers, writers and creative artists to present and critically reflect on their work and to produce original, adventurous projects.

Call for papers
We are interested to receive proposals both in photography and critical writing for the series. To send a proposal for a volume in the series, please download a questionnaire
(http://www.intellectbooks.co.uk/MediaManager/File/Author_questionnaire.doc) or contact books@intellectbooks.com. For further information, contact the series editor Alfredo Cramerotti (alfredo@intellectbooks.com).

The series is at the forefront in expanding the notion of critical debate: each book investigates a theoretical issue via these two systems of investigation, visual and written. Neither words that 'explains' pictures nor photography that 'illustrates' text, Critical Photography (http://www.intellectbooks.co.uk/books/view-Series,id=19/) addresses aspects of our being and becoming in a thought-provoking and aesthetically stunning form and content.

Forthcoming titles in the series:

Unmapping the City: Perspectives of Flatness (http://www.intellectbooks.co.uk/books/view-Book,id=4700/)

The Blind (http://www.intellectbooks.co.uk/books/view-Book,id=4717/)

Alfredo Cramerotti (http://www.intellectbooks.co.uk/contact/view-Contact-Page,id=14191/), the series editor, in his work focuses on emergent modes of photography theory and practice through the crossover with other sectors (journalism, advertising, art, science, law, etc.) and on works that advance to photography from documentary, photojournalism, archive, cross artforms and contemporary commercial narratives. Here, it is understood that the reception of photography and writing is also a condition of their production, the potential of intervene and alter life.
